Tour description

On this tour we will be exploring the amazing highlands of the North. This is a full day, 12 hour, trip for the howl family. 

We will start the trip at Godafoss, the waterfall of the gods, then we will drive up to Bardardalur along the side of the glacial river, Skjalfandafljot and all the way to Aldeyjarfoss. We will go to the Lake Myvatn and explore the magical surroundings, including the amazing Lava Park, Dimmuborgiir. Some believe that these rock formations in Dimmuborgir are Trolls that turned to stone. 

There we will take a lunch brake.

After the delicious food we head out to Grjótagjá cave and Höfði cape, where some of the “Game of Thrones” series where filmed. After that we visit the large lava field of the 1875 eruption in Askja, Ódáðahraun. You admire the amazing scenery formed by both fire and the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, the landscape is out this world. There you will visit Europe´s most powerful waterfall Dettifoss.

On the way back you can have dinner at the Cowshed restaurant, a local restaurant which specialises in courses from farm to table.

Highlights of the North tours are available all year, but in the winter we might have to change the itinerary according to weather and road conditions.

A signed liability waiver is required prior to all tour departures. Your safety is our first priority so itinerary might be altered due to bad weather or road conditions, we might have to cancel or reschedule the tour if weather or other conditions are not in our favour.  All cancelled tours, on our behalf, are 100% refunded.
